Picking Ceramic Shower Tile
Certainly some tiles are better suited than others for ceramic shower tile, but really the whole universe of tile is fair game when it comes to showers. Here's why...
The really tricky part of a ceramic tile shower and custom shower floors is not the tile type. You would not want really slick tiles on the floor of course but other than that just about any tiles can be used on showers. For example in larger showers just about any 12x12 tiles will work on walls or floors too for that matter.
Using whatever texture or color off tile you like will work out just fine.
Ceramic Shower Tile And Cleaning
Just keep in mind that the tile will need cleaning and that is easier with some tiles than with others. The other spot to consider when you think about cleaning is the grout. Especially on floors cleaning the grout is a consideration.
Using an epoxy grout in bathrooms is often recommended since the epoxy grouts are just naturally sealed and less trouble than conventional grouts.
What matters more than the tile in a shower is the base for the tile. Getting the shower pan liner installed properly is a must and getting it wrong is a disaster no matter what shower ceramic tile you pick.
How you build the shower base partly determines how much cleaning of the tiles and grout you get to do anyway. Tiling a shower floor is about a lot more than just picking a certain tile...
That is because a shower base that holds water and that stays wet will be the perfect place for all sorts of things like mold to start to grow. Ceramic shower tile will stay in better shape and cleaner with a properly designed and installed shower pan and base.
