You Can Install A Ceramic Shower Soap Dish

A ceramic shower soap dish is a great tile shower accessory. To install one is much like installing any tile. Towel racks and many other accessories install the same way.

See the article, Replacing An Individual Tile, for the procedure to remove an old tile and install an accessory like a tile soap dish.

If this is a new installation, when you lay the tile for the walls, leave a space for the soap dish. Allow for the grout too. If the soap dish base is different from your wall tile size, cut tiles to make the size correct. Keep grout off the mounting surface where the soap dish will go. It's easier to remove the grout before it hardens rather than trying to get the hard grout out.

After the wall tile is set and before the grout is applied, install the ceramic shower soap dish. Make sure the backing where the dish will go is clean, then apply thinset or adhesive to the soap dish mounting surface. Place the dish base into position. Use spacers and masking tape to hold the dish in position for 24 hours.

Now apply grout using a rubber-backed grout trowel. Clean the face of the tile and accessory and that's the finish of that ceramic shower soap dish project.
