The Marble Shower Pan Tricks

A marble shower pan is built like any other pan. You can build up the shower pan with masonry and a waterproof membrane or you can use a tile ready shower pan. So building the shower is just like building any ceramic tile shower. The tiles usually are sealed before grouting to try to maintain the shine. Marble tile is laid like ceramic tile too. For a shower floor, choose small tiles so the floor slope can be smoothly formed. Consider how you will match the joints in the floor with the wall joints. Sometimes the floor tile is laid at a 45 degree angle so the grout match with walls is not a problem.

Why choose a marble shower? You choose marble in a shower for the look. The veining and many color choices of marble shower tile shout out luxury and beauty. Nothing else has the same look. My aunt lived in north Georgia right in the midst of a large marble mining area. Marble was used everywhere there in construction. Even their county courthouse in Jasper, Georgia is all marble. There is a mansion there built by one of the marble mining families that's all pink marble. Marble is so beautiful and luxurious.

But looks is the only reason for a marble shower. Marble scratches and stains easily. As a result it's quick to lose it's shine. It contains calcium so acids will etch it readily. Don't use vinegar to clean it, only use cleaners designed for marble. However it can be polished easily. In short, marble is a high maintenance material. Granite is an alternative since it is less porous and much easier to maintain. But if you want the look of marble, there is no substitute. Granite doesn't match it. Ceramic tile doesn't match it.
