Oatey Shower Pan Liner
The Oatey shower pan liner is one of the most readily available liner membranes and as such gets used when many people are building a shower pan. The liners are part of most of the traditional shower pan installations that use masonry to build up a shower base as opposed to using a tile ready shower pan or shower pan kit.
The liners are actually just a sheet of vinyl that will hold water if properly placed within the floor of a masonry shower. Either PVC or CPC materials work. The materials require that different adhesives are uses. The PVC and CPC also differ a bit in the ease of working with the materials and in how they stiffen over time. Otherwise what you get with the liners is just about the same.
Tricky parts to getting the liners in place are mostly at the margins.
Cutting a hole for the drain base is the first spot where things get a little stressful. Once the hole is in the liner then it must be sealed to keep the water headed to the drain rather than elsewhere. That is tricky to do but with the right adhesive and sealer it is a possibility.
Other spots to make a mess are in the corners. What usually gets done in corners rather than cutting is just some careful folding and stapling in those corners. That make for a bulky corner but one less likely to leak. Similarly at the curb you get a whole series of projects as the liner often must be trimmed to fit over the curb. Get that right as well as the other spots and the rest of the shower goes together well indeed.
The Oatey shower pan liner stands between water in a typical shower and serious home damage. Look out that at the corners and edges you get a good seal.
